About Sound Test

Sound Test is a set of free tools for checking your speakers, headphones, subwoofer and microphone, right in your browser. There's nothing to install and no audio files to download: every tone, sweep and noise is made on your device the moment you press play. See all the tools.

What the tools can and can't tell you

The tools answer questions you can hear the answer to: is the left speaker working, are left and right swapped, where does the bass stop? Then they leave it to your ears. They don't measure anything in absolute terms, because the speakers and microphones in laptops, phones and headsets aren't calibrated.

That's why the microphone meter shows a relative level in dBFS, meaning how close the signal is to the loudest level your device can handle, and never claims to show real loudness. It's why the hearing range test isn't a medical hearing test and can't diagnose hearing loss. And it's why the bass test doesn't measure anything: it lets you hear where your equipment stops.

Privacy, in short

No cookies, no tracking scripts and no ads. Audio from your microphone never leaves your device. Our web host, Cloudflare, logs requests, including IP addresses, like every web host does. The privacy page has the details.
